I’m checking out PayPal’s shipping label service - did you know that through them you can buy shipping labels from USPS or UPS, and get your parcel picked up at the door? – when I noticed the examples they used for names:
Chinese names. Interestingly enough, Xiaoming (小明) is the equivalent of John Doe when I was learning Chinese in Singapore; he’s the hero and main character in textbooks and sample compositions.
Finally, acknowledgement that most of the world’s population don’t have English names. Or perhaps they’re just pandering to their customers, a majority of whom are Chinese, who knows.
